What To Do In OB

In celebration of our Ocean Beach location opening up in time for the warmer months we made a list of fun things to do around OB. This way you can book a surf lesson and afterwards head to the beach, grab a bite to eat, or just enjoy the unique culture that Ocean Beach has to offer. Our OB location opened March 1st, so make sure to take a look at this list and head over to one of the best surf towns in San Diego.

The Pier

Just south of our shop, where you’ll learn to surf, is a beautiful pier that overlooks the ocean. Take a walk out to admire the beauty and watch the surfers below. If you walk all the way to the end there is a cafe waiting for you where you can take a break and have a snack while sitting above the ocean.

Hodads is a staple of Ocean Beach. While their food is good, the design of the restaurant is even better. Order their famous Guido or Blue Jay Burger, an amazing milkshake and sit inside the van that is built into the walls of the shop. Or grab a table and admire the loaners license plates that decorate the surfing themed restaurant. You will definitely leave feeling satisfied.

Sunset Cliffs

If you go south of the pier you will find sunset cliffs. This spot is one of the most beautiful spots in San Diego. You can sit on the cliffs and admire the beauty of the ocean. As the name suggests, the best views are at sunset so bring a picnic and visit this spot to end a perfect day!

This place is a San Diego Surf School favorite! When you are in Ocean Beach you must go to Phatties. This is a cafe and bakery that has options for all eaters! Here you can find vegan, gluten free, or normal sweets. Whatever you choose you won’t be disappointed.

OB Farmers Market

While this event is only on Wednesday’s, it’s an amazing way to get to know Ocean Beach. The OB Farmers Market takes place on Newport Ave. Here you can find local businesses that offer amazing food, plants, jewelry, and many more things that will make you feel like you’re an Ocean Beach local. If you’re booking a lesson with us and are unsure what day to surf, Wednesday’s are great days because as soon as you hop out of the water you can head over to the market to surely find something you’ll love.

Dog Beach

North of the pier is a dog beach where your pups and roam free. This beach is pretty far away from the parking lot so you can let your dog off-leash to dig in the sand, run in the water, or play with the other dogs that will surely be at the beach. This is one of the most spacious dog beaches in San Diego and is filled with cute dogs to make your day.

Newport Ave

Newport Ave is a strip in the middle of OB. Take a stroll down the street to find cool shops and great food. Newport ave captures the culture of Ocean Beach where you can find something for everyone.

Here at the San Diego Surf School we are so happy to have a shop in such an amazing location and so excited to be open again! Come by and enjoy the surf and choose from some of the many fun things that OB has to offer.
